The Phosphorus Donation won iF Universal Design - Expert Favorite

The Phosphorus Donation is a follow-up on the interdisciplinary iSaS project in 2014. The project was recommended by the Hans Sauer Foundation for the iF Universal Design awards at the Munich Creative Business week 2015 last March. Here it won the iF Universal Design - Expert Favorite. 

In the Thought-For-Food challenge the Phosphorus Donation made it into the top 20 and the whole team was invited to join the TFF Summit in Lisbon 2015; an inspiring 2 days event full with interesting talks, workshops and activities, which let to great new contacts from all over the world.

The Phosphorus Donation Foundation gets recognised at 2 events for social design

The new iSaS team worked on extended concepts for phosphorus recovery and applied for participation at 2 important events.

The new iSaS team has now the chance to present their work at the TFF (Thought for Food) Global Summit (http://tffchallenge.com) on 13. & 14. of February 2014.

iSaS interdisziplinäres Studentenprojekt zu integrierten Sanitärsystemen für Campingplätze - Dokumentation verfügbar

iSaS - integrierte Sanitärsysteme

- ein interdisziplinäres Studentenprojekt von Designern und Umweltingenieuren an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Im Rahmen eines Kooperationsprojekts zwischen dem Masterstudiengang Umweltingenieurwissenschaften und dem Masterstudiengang Nachhaltige Produktkulturen an der Bauhaus Universität Weimar , haben sich vier Studierende mit dem Thema Integration
von neuartigen Sanitärsystemen in der westlichen Gesellschaft beschäftigt. 

Es geht besonders darum, das System der Trenntoiletten für den Nutzer akzeptabler zu machen.
Durch interdisziplinären Austausch von Kenntnissen, gemeinsamer Recherche und Kontextbetrachtungen, sind drei Entwürfe für eine öffentliche Sanitäranlage entstanden. 

Diese Entwürfe sind besonders für Campingplätze und Naturschutzgebiete gedacht. Diese Szenarien bieten nicht nur ein erste Möglichkeit zur Einführung dieses neuen Sanitärsystems: Durch die Lage der Sanitäranlage z.B. auf einem Campingplatz, erhält der Benutzer während eines längeren Aufenthalts die Gelegenheit diese mehrmals zu benutzen und sich damit schneller an die neue Technologie zu gewöhnen. Dies wird wiederum die Implementation dieser Toiletten auch im privaten Bereich fördern.

In der Toilettenanlage, wird der Benutzer mit den wachsenden Problemen von Nährstoffknappheit konfrontiert und gleichzeitig mit einer funktionierenden und realistischen Lösung für diese Probleme vertraut gemacht. Drei Erlebniskonzepte wurden erarbeitet, so dass es möglich wird verschiedene Einsatzbereiche und Orte zu bedienen. 

Um die Vorteile der Interdisziplinarität im Designansatz einzubeziehen hat sich das Team mit den gesamten Sanitäranlage und ihren Umgebung auseinandergesetzt. Dafür haben sich die Studenten der Umweltingenieurwissenschaften mit dem nachhaltigen Management der Ressource Abwasser  beschäftigt und die Design-Studenten mit der User-Experience.
Die beiden Disziplinen haben sich aber immer wieder überschnitten und gegenseitig von der engen  Zusammenarbeit profitiert, was man sehr gut an dem Ergebnis der bemerkenswerten Arbeit erkennen kann.

In context of a cooperation project between the master program Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Product Culture of the Bauhaus-Universitätniversity, four students worked together on the implementation of innovative and sustainable sanitation in the western society. The main challenge was to make the sustainable sanitation system acceptable for this new group of users. Through knowledge exchange, a shared research study and building user-scenarios together, three concept proposals for public sanitation facilities were created by the designers.

The facilities are especially thought for campsites. This scenario contributes extra to a successful introduction as people on holidays are normally more open for experiencing ‘new things’, thereby the user will use the facility more than once and can accustom to it. Also campsites are often located outside urban areas in nature. Therefor the new material cycle can even be closed in the direct surrounding. This is not only beneficiary for the acceptance of the new system, but also for the campsite itself.

In the facility the user will be confronted with the rising problems around the way we use our resources but is directly introduced to a viable solution. The three concepts all approach the information sharing unique ways and thereby serve different settings. Because of the interdisciplinary work in the team, it was able to integrate the facility in its respective surroundings. The Engineers were responsible for the material management and the designers dealt with the user- experience. The close cooperation was very important as the fields overlapped on many points. The students have profited a lot from the cooperation, what can clearly be seen in the result of their remarkable work.
